I am having the hardest time . . .

Staying focused. I am determined to make 2012 more productive than 2011 so I am following the advice of some of my fellow bloggers and breaking projects down in to 15-30 minute increments until I can get them completed. I am currently supposed to working on B5562 view B

and I am keeping a sewing journal to also help me keep a realistic idea of how long it's taking me to finish things and at what point I'm getting hung up.

What I'm noticing is that I am having an extremely difficult time staying focused on my project and I spend my time with my mind wandering toward other projects. I then start preping the new project until my mind wanders again and so it goes. As I write, I've already pulled fabric for B5679 View B

This also explains why at any given time, I have AT LEAST 2-3 UFO's at any given time, which over the years, I have grown kind of fond of because when I do pick them back up, they are quick to complete, but I digress. What I really want to know, is how do those of you who have to sew in small increments stay focused? I always love to hear from the experts.

  1. Kelly, I never noticed B5679 before. I really like the one with the weird pocket on point. Perhaps you don't like your first or second choice so you're searching for something you will like better. Keep at it, you might like them once they are finished. I can't wait to see all your new tops! P.S. I have three UFO tops in the pile at the moment as well, but I'm working on the PR stash contest so they'll have to wait until next month.

    1. Sherril, I love everything, part of the problem is that I want everything RIGHT.NOW. Cutting out tonight though and hopefully I'll finish something tomorrow. I've also been trying to make easy pieces so I'm less likely to lose interest.

  2. I just REFUSE starting a new project until my current one is finished. So far that rule I've set for myself has worked for me.

    1. Such resolve, I'm definitely trying, because I'm ending up with no fruit for my labor.

  3. Am only a beginner so am not as prolific as some who they whip up outfits in a few hours. I do a bit each day as it does not seem that time consuming. So one day I may trace off. The next I will cut out pattern and so forth. I tend to enjoy it more, and will probably do that when am advanced as I do get bored easily and itch to do something else.
